Local artist Ian Saxby loses everything in an unfortunate house fire.

Local professional artist Ian Saxby lost everything in a fire in July, 2018 that consumed his home in Hunters Home, New Brunswick, which is located just west of Moncton, New Brunswick.

Check out the Youtube video of the fire: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vX3o2-EphyQ

Ian and his wife, Catherine, were in their home at the time, and both were rushed to the hospital with severe injuries. Ian remained in intensive care in a medically induced coma for three weeks. Both his arms and legs were badly burned and he required skin grafts from fingertips to elbows. Thankfully Ian has been removed from the ICU and into a burn isolation room where his condition continues to slowly improve. At this time, he is still bedridden but is looking forward to healing and getting back to painting.

A priceless loss!!

Ian’s home burned completely to the ground destroying all of his art works and art making supplies, therefore making it impossible for him to be able to make a living.

Ian says; “This is a devastating accident but it could have been much worse, we could have lost our lives. I am looking forward to being able to paint again but I know that will take some time. I would like to thank everyone who has helped us out so far and to those who will be helping me out by donating to our cause.”

The Starving Artist Gallery now holds Ian’s last surviving paintings. The gallery has seven of his works and is going to donate the profits from the sale of the paintings back to Ian.

Buff Slaney owner of the Starving Artist Gallery says; “helping Ian out by raising some money to help get him back on his feet is the right thing to do. He is one of our family of artists and he is an extremely talented painter and a kind soul. We hope the art community will join us by pitching in to raise some money and help spread the word.”
