I have the opportunity to travel to Finland with a delegation of Art Educators!
This will be a professional development/cultural exchange trip organized by NAEA (National Art Educators Association) of which I am a member. Some of you may recall that I had an amazing opportunity to go to Myanmar last year with the same delegation. It was a true life changing experience for me to see another part of the world through an art educator's eyes. I've included two pictures below from that trip.
More About Finland...
I'm excited to learn more about Finland's educational system. Since it implemented huge education reforms 40 years ago, Finland's school system has consistently come out at the top for the international rankings for education systems. I am also excited to learn more about their art and culture. It will be interesting to witness the Nordic, Russian and European cultural influences in architecture and art. There is also, of course, the Finnish Sauna that is so widely used in both public and private establishments. Did you know there are about 2 million saunas in Finland for less than 6 million people? Back to the trip...
Once in Finland, besides cultural activities, the delegation will visit schools and places of learning and will meet with educators and administrators of art education. The delegation will focus on curriculum, standards, teaching environments, assessments, teacher preparation, the influence of local art and culture and more. It is with hope that this educational/cultural exchange will contribute to strengthening the ties of art education on a world scale.

The trip package that NAEA has set up does not include airfare so I have outlined it separately:
Trip Package: $4,795
(Includes: Group transportation within Finland • Meetings • Accommodations • Entry fees for cultural visits • Service of a national guide • Most meals
Airfare: $1,430
(Roundtrip-Green Bay, WI/Helsinki, Finland)
Dates: November 1-7, 2014
