Art Research Travel to Haida Gwaii Island (Canada)

Donation protected
Hello my name is Corrinne Eira Evans and I'm a contemporary jeweller - www.corrinneeiraevans.com . The inspiration behind my jewellery is a fascination of First Nations Art and culture.
In 2017 I self funded a trip to Vancouver Island and Alert Bay Island where I had the great privilege of connecting with the Namgis tribe, learning about their cultural teachings, watching their dances with incredibly carved masks and the amazing surroundings, deepened my interest.
On the back of this trip I have been awarded an exhibition at the Devon Guild of Craftsmen - www.crafts.org.co.uk in September 2020, which is a great achievement.
After my first research trip I have been in contact with three major master craftspeople over on Haida Gwaii Island.
I would love to head out there for a period of at least 6 weeks. In this time I will spend about a week with each master craftsperson learning Ravens Tail Weaving with Georgia Bennett, Cedar Carving with John Brent Bennett and Cedar weaving with Marlene Liddle. I will also be visiting the local museums, art galleries and speaking/interviewing local Haida artists on their craft and heritage.
The exhibition will culminate in collaboration works with these craftspeople, a journeyed portfolio and interviews, bringing back what I have learnt and studied to pass on to the general public.
I also hope to run workshops of these crafts, especially with children, getting them to engage in a different cultures through craft.

I have applied for Arts Council Funding but the amount needed super-seeds the amount they can give in any one go.
So, I'm here to ask you all if you would be so generous as to help fund my trip. The funds are for paying the craftspeople to teach me their crafts, accommodation whilst I'm over there, a car rental so I can get to the remote places the artists live and museum entry fees.

I plan on going from the 15th August to 26th September 2019.

This support to get me out there would mean so much to me.
I would be able to capture a research portfolio to inform my solo exhibition and long term direction and business plan.
It will mean gaining international exposure with solid connections abroad, creating opportunities for both myself and the master crafts people to exhibit internationally. I will be able to benefit the wider community with the new skills learnt in the form of workshops, talks and demonstrations. This opportunity will give me  insight  into their lengthy production processes which use their surroundings materials sustainably within their art/crafts, being careful with the environment and maintaining the longevity of generational use.

This help would mean an incredible deal to me, having invested time building up these amazing relationships, it would be fantastic to gain so much more insight into their culture and art, in order to educate the wider community and develop my work further. To have collaborations with these incredible craftspeople for the future is really very exciting and so many more opportunities  will arise from this trip. Thank you so much for reading my GoFundMe project and hope you find it as exciting as I do.
If you are unable to fund with money, please can you help by spreading the word of my project.

Many many thanks,

Corrinne x
