Arsh has Thalassemia Major and needs Surgery

Donation protected
Hello, this fundraiser is for Arshpreet Singh, a 7 year old boy who resides in a small village outside Bathinda, Punjab, India. Arshpreet was born with the blood disorder Thalassemia and is in the major category.

Thalassemia is an inherited blood disorder in which the body makes an abnormal form or inadequate amount of hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen. The disorder results in large numbers of red blood cells being destroyed, which leads to anemia. Simply put Arshpreets body can't produce its own blood and he requires blood transfusions regularly. Problems associated with thalassemia are extreme fatigue, weakness, pale skin, bone deformities,  slow growth in children, urinary issues, abdominal swelling.

Relying on the sub standard and highly inefficient public healthcare provided by the Govt. of India has inordinate amounts of risks. Quality of treatment, care, compassion, skills of medical professionals is not up to the mark. In such a callous system there is always the chance of receiving infected or the wrong type of blood. As India offers both public and private healthcare and due to the above reasons, the family is seeking high quality private service, which would obviously come at a premium.

TREATMENT:  Long term and concrete solution for Arshpreet is to get a bone-marrow transplant. The cost of the surgery is estimated to be between $25,000- $35,000 CDN Therefore the goal has been set to $30,000. It is easier to perform this surgery at his age as it can be harder to do in the teen or adult stage. As Arshpreet is a growing child the sooner the surgery is done, it will lead to stabilizing his body thus ensuring normal growth and development.

A little info on the FAMILY: I am Ekamprit Singh, his cousin living in Surrey, BC, Canada. I have met Arshpreet many times when we visit India and over the years I have noticed severe adverse effects in him as result of dealing with something so serious and critical at such a tender age.

Arshpreet's dad Mohinder Singh owns a business of selling clocks/ opticals and his mother is a teacher at a private school. He has a younger sister who is 3 years old!

The family struggles financially on a day to day basis to make ends meet in order to keep up with basic and medical expenses incurred. Mohinder Singh had come to Canada sometime back in light of making some money for his son's treatment, but since work was slow he had to return to India. He donates blood for his son every time he gets the chance, and also is an active member of the blood donation group.

We are humbly asking for help so Arshpreet Singh can get better treatment and lead a healthier lifestyle. If you would like to connect with the family here in Canada or India before making a contribution the family is happy to answer any questions you may have.

Thank You for your time!  I am organizing this fundraiser for the family in India as they speak Punjabi and I am fluent in English. I can even arrange for you to speak with Arshpreets parents in India if you would like to do so. Thanks once again!!
