Hello friends!
I'm writing this on behalf of Milton & Cindy Arriaga, and their beautiful daughter, Abby.
Milton & Cindy have been married for 4 years, and have been Bayside Midtown small group members with us for almost as long. To know them is to love them, and anyone who knows them also knows how generous they are with their time and resources when it comes to friends and family. The Arriagas are always the life of the party, and their presence brings out the best in those keeping their company. They love to laugh, but they also have a way of connecting with people in a deep, meaningful way because of their faith in Jesus.
Milton has been in the process of applying for a green card (which would lead to a U.S. citizenship in the future) for the past 2 years. His parents came to California from Honduras in the early 1990s and he followed behind in 2001. He has been living in California since he was 10 years old. He grew up going to church and has always prioritized serving in some capacity, whether on the worship team or in the children and youth ministries. He currently works as an electrician for Insight Builders. He has resided in California for 17 years with a clean criminal record and for almost 4 years he had DACA (Deferred Action of Childhood Arrivals) but since the program is constantly being threatened to end his legal status is uncertain. His wife, Cindy, is currently staying home with their almost 2-year-old daughter and is currently attending Brandman University to obtain her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology so she can return to work soon after graduating.
After months of submitting letters and wading through red tape, Milton finally has the opportunity this summer to interview for a green card. However, the circumstances of this interview were unforeseen: instead of processing his green card state-side, Milton will have to fly to Honduras for the interview on August 21, 2018, but has to leave a week early to do the medical exam that is required by immigration. He will have to be there for 3-4 weeks, his employer does not offer paid vacation/ leave. He no longer has any family in Honduras, nor any friends with which to stay or act as a guide. Cindy and the baby cannot travel with him because of the presence of Zika virus and the gang violence in the country. He will be alone, in a country foreign to him, with his wife and baby waiting anxiously for his return. His return, in fact, is not guaranteed, pending any complications with the interview process. This realization has left Milton & Cindy stressed and fearful of what the future may hold.
We would love to help the Arriagas raise enough funds to cover the cost of flying Milton to Honduras, staying there for up to a month, and maintaining their household bills while he is away and not able to work. Please join us in supporting this wonderful couple as they face this daunting trip for Milton to Honduras. Your prayers of support are deeply appreciated, and anything you can contribute financially would be a blessing to them. Lord knows this country is in need of more men of character, like Milton Arriaga!
