Exceptional Student from Kenya

Only last week I was admitted into North Central College ,IL on a partial academic and international student scholarship; this is a great opportunity for me and it made me realize that I can be whatever I want to be and achieve every dream I have.
I am a young man with a dream and a belief; that I will see much more than I see now and be much more. Growing up in Nairobi, Kenya is one of the best things that have happen to me; It has taught me values and the need to be principled. It has also taught me to dream big and to reach beyond the horizons that seem possible to reach. It has birthed my dream.
I hope to one day have a career in Architecture. I have lived adjacent to Kibera slum, the largest in Sub-Saharan Africa, for some years now and are always left distraught by the quality of life in the shanty- strewn valley whose often brown, rusty tin houses stretch on and on. I have purposed to ensure that people do not live in such degrading conditions as long as I am capable of facilitating the establishment of low-cost, sustainable housing and enhancing human dignity.
I intend to spearhead the changes that will see human dignity is upheld and that no single individual is denied his right to a decent quality of life and hence, I will be a leader. A leader symbolizes the hope for a better future and is the source of encouragement to those around him. He has the task of instilling the best in others, of building up, advancing and being a light by exemplifying what he believes in. When he does this, he liberates others to do the same.
I have managed to maintain a 3.87 GPA and have been recognized for membership by the National Society of High School Scholars due to outstanding academic achievement. In addition, I have a passion for basketball and have played for the National Junior Team and represented my country in the annual NBA/FIBA Basketball Without Borders Africa Camp.

Receiving this chance would open up opportunities that span beyond me and project to the lives of others. My dream though valid begins with you; the scholarship of $19,000 covers about half the cost and I still have to raise $27,487. I come from a family of little means however and the cost is significantly expensive.
I would be extremely grateful for your donation; even a dollar would make such a big difference.
Thank you,
Zachary Okong’o.
