I am excited to announce that I will be traveling to Kenya with Performers Without Borders (PWB) for 10 weeks to volunteer teaching circus to children!!There were six of us selected from around the world and I am so happy and grateful to have the opportunity to spread my love for movement and circus arts to the children of Kenya!
Performers Without Borders works with vulnerable children in countries of high child poverty teaching them circus and performing arts skills to build confidence, develop empowerment and overcome social barriers. About me
Since I was a little girl I have always loved movement and circus arts. I started out as a gymnast and a dancer, and later as a teen discovered flow arts and juggling. These things have taught me so much and completely shaped my life! They teach spacial awareness, creativity and artistic expression. Circus arts have also taught me about the importance of play and I believe it’s what keeps us young! I love teaching circus to kids of all ages. My favorite part is the spark of joy that they get in their eyes when playing and learning something new.
I am so excited to start this journey! We will be traveling to several cities and partnering with local schools and charities to teach daily workshops and after school programs as well as performing community shows.
By volunteering with Performers Without Borders I’ve agreed to help fundraise money to subsidize our transportation costs, buy new equipment to teach the kids with, and help pay for the management and organization of the tour.
I’m also responsible for my own expenses while I’m there, my plane ticket to and from Kenya.
Here is a breakdown of the costs for the tour and how these funds will be put to use:
$1500: Personal tour contribution For accommodation, basic meals, tour logistics and management
$1300: flights to Nairobi, Kenya
$500: Travel insurance
$200: vaccines necessary for the tour
