Flood Repairs for Archie Library

The library in Archie, MO flooded on July 27th, after nearly 7 inches of rain in just a few hours.

There was 4 to 6 inches of standing water throughout the branch, damaging items on the bottom shelves, and ruining the carpet. In addition, computers, computer equipment, and cables were damaged, along with boxes of books meant for children and teens as Summer Reading prizes.
The carpet needs to be dried and cleaned, computers need to be replaced, and the library needs to replace the materials that were lost.
There were about a dozen community member who helped staff move furniture, computers, and other items out of the library today, but in order for the branch to re-open and continue serving the community, the library needs help.
Cass County Public Library has a very limited budget, and could not foresee a flood. This branch serves about 4,000 people in south Cass County. It is a pretty rural area, and many residents depend on the library for a consistent internet connection, job resources, research tools, early literacy programs, and, of course, reading.
The branch will remain closed until the above repairs can be made. $5,000 is an estimate based on the cost of new materials, carpet cleaning, and replacing the computers and other items. The longer that the branch sits in a moist environment, the more materials that will be damaged with mold.
Libraries don't typically ask for help, but, in this case, the library is asking you to help its community. Help the library to continue serving this dedicated community. We need money to be able to replace the damaged items and equipment, but we always accept donations. Any material donations can be dropped off at any of the other branches (Harrisonville, Drexel, and Garden City are the closest to Archie).
