Archer's "We The People" trip to D.C.

Hi Friends and Family!

Thanks to the incredible leadership and teaching skills of my government teacher, Jim Rooks and a group of outstanding peers, our Jackson Hole High School "We The People" team qualified for districts, state, and now the national competition in Washington, DC. The Center for Civic Education describes the “We The People” program as “a simulated congressional hearing in which students ‘testify’ before a panel of judges acting as members of Congress. Students demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of constitutional principles and have opportunities to evaluate, take, and defend positions on relevant historical and contemporary issues.”

While studying the constitution in depth and answering rigorous questions regarding its impact on our country does not sounds very exciting, it is something I have found important particularly given our current political climate. I have developed an interest in this program and have seen this through long hours researching court cases, current issues, and the U.S. Constitution. Our team’s hard work has been rewarded, and we have earned the opportunity to visit our nation's capital and compete at the national level.

As an individual, I am expected to raise $1800 which will cover our 4-day trip to Washington, D.C., including my flight, food, tours and lodging. Anything you can  contribute is appreciated. Even a "forward" or a "share" could help me achieve this financial goal! Thank you for your time and if you are able, your contribution. I am excited to work hard and make every penny count!

In gratitude,
Archer Caulkins
