Arafa's Family Support Fund

On June 14th, 2020, Arafa Matar drove to the hospital with a severe headache and did not make it out alive to her six children at home. Arafa is a Black Muslim refugee from Sudan who has been living in the United States for only four years. Arafa suffered from painful headaches for months and was always sent home by her doctor whenever she would go in to complain. She was neglected and dismissed every time, despite her multiple attempts to get help. The night she passed, she was in a lot of pain and drove herself to the hospital. That night, doctors confirmed there was a cancerous tumor growing in her brain. After this diagnosis, doctors did not perform the necessary and urgent surgery operation because there were no rooms available. After waiting far too long to find an available surgeon, process the application, and transfer her to a new facility, she had passed.

Arafa had the potential of living. This negligence and evident medical racism resulted in her leaving six kids behind and her 50-year-old husband Gamar Matar Hameed, with a full-time night job.  Arafa left behind a 14-year-old son with special needs and five more children all under the age of 11. After the passing of Arafa, Mr. Gamar has left his job to care for the six kids without any external familial support.

By donating today, you will be contributing to the medical costs of the son with special needs, the rent until the father is able to return to work, food, transportation, clothes, and savings for the family in case of any further emergencies. The organizer of this gofundme is neighbors and old friends with this family. This fund will ALL be sent out to the family of Arafa Matar. This matter is urgent and needs attention very very soon, so the family can pay rent and is able to pay for medical expenses. Medical racism is a huge problem that is very much real, please contribute in stopping the horror that it leaves behind. #BLM  BELIEVE BLACK WOMEN!

EDIT:

Thank you so much for donating, we have reached and passed it. Lily Mojdehi will be taking out the funds for the family and giving it in the form of a check. And since Arafa is no longer with us,  Lily's role is to process the payment into a check and Noun will deliver it to the family (Noun lives closer and knows the family better).
