Help Save Pathways to Wellness

After 25 years of providing free and low-cost healthcare, we find ourselves in a financial crisis. Due to unpredicted costs during the construction of our new space, losing our executive director, and delays in receiving revenue from insurance companies and other third party payers, we are asking for your help so we can continue to serve the greater Boston community. We desperately need your help to keep our doors open.

About Pathways to Wellness:

Pathways began in 1989 as the AIDS Care Project, an all-volunteer organization of acupuncturists who banded together to provide free acupuncture treatments for people with HIV/AIDS. In the year 2000 the agency expanded its services beyond HIV/AIDS and created Pathways to Wellness, a non-profit, holistic therapies clinic providing affordable acupuncture, shiatsu, and Chinese herbs to a diverse community of clients in the Greater Boston area.

Pathways unique “Share the Care” business model enables patients who are able to pay full price for their treatments to help subsidize free and low cost services for those without resources. In this way, clients merely have to take care of themselves with any of Pathways holistic therapies in order to know that they are helping to take care of others in their community. To ensure that its care is accessible to all, Pathways offers a variety of low-cost and discount programs including community-style acupuncture, insurance discounts, and sliding-scale rates.

In addition to its main clinic on Washington Street in Boston’s South End, Pathways provides services at several satellite locations including Massachusetts General Hospital and Tufts Medical Center. Pathways home care program provides treatments to people with severe disabilities who are unable to visit the clinic. Pathways also provides free education and outreach to approximately 1,500 community members and medical staff each year, on topics related to self-care and preventive health, acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, healthy aging and healthy lifestyles.

We know the community’s support has gotten us through other past challenges – such as losing federal Ryan White funding in 2006, closing a dozen satellite clinics, laying off staff, and taking pay-cuts. We know that the support of our community, friends, clients, and supporters can get us through the current crisis we face.
