Hi All:

As some of you may have heard by now, Phoebe Gilbert was involved in a serious horse riding accident on Monday, June 16, 2014 in Puerto Rico. She was thrown from the horse she was riding causing her to land on her head. She was rushed to the affiliated clinic of the organization she was volunteering with. She was then Medivaced to the only hospital in PR with a trauma center at the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus.

At this time she went into surgery to remove parts of her skull to allow for swelling of the brain. She is currently in a medically induced coma while they wait for her to stabilize. She is in currently in the ICU department and not stable at this point. The doctors are hoping that after 7-10 days her condition will have improved but this is, by no means, guaranteed. Regardless of what happens from here Phoebe will have a very long road ahead of her.

Phoebe’s older brother, Hugo, flew down on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 to be with her and to be her advocate. Other than the people Phoebe was working with in PR, Hugo will be her only family member or friend that will be there with her. This means he will be responsible for making all decisions and also for all communication with doctors and staff at the hospital and any other treatment she may need.

As Hugo works to get the best care for his sister, costs will be adding up rapidly– this is where we can assist. We want to help alleviate the stress and financial burdens that come along with an event as unexpected as this. Considering the high cost of travel, accommodations, food, and lack of insurance, we can all help out a little.

As friends, family, acquaintances, and even strangers of the Gilbert family, in addition to sending love, prayers, and support, one thing we could do to ease their worries is offer financial donations.

No donation is too small, and any help is very much appreciated. In addition, please help to spread the word- send emails, post as status updates, tell friends and family, and even strangers.

We will keep you updated as more information comes in and thank you in advance for your help, thoughts, prayers, and love during this time.
