Hello all, and thanks for your interest in our fundraiser.
In short, our cat Zelda went missing, and turns out was hit by a car. She has unfortunately quite catastrophic injuries - a dislocated right hip that can't be popped back in as the joint capsule is too badly damaged, and on her other leg she has had a degloving injury that has badly damaged the tendon in her hock and left the joint unstable. This means she can't bare any weight in her back legs at all. It is unfortunately not a simple fix, as she will essentially need double surgery and lots of metal plates to correct it all.
We've already paid out about £700 just for x-rays and emergency care. We have found a vet in Gloucester that can help us for about £3000, plus any aftercare, so we're trying to raise some cash to help us out towards the cost of that, otherwise she may have to be put down. Hopefully our insurance will cover approx £1800 after that we're on our own!
I'm a carer for my son and partner who are both disabled, so as much as we'd love to we don't just have thousands to throw at this. You can rest assured we've made her as comfortable as possible and are following veterinary advice. It's certainly a harrowing time especially for the kids to see her hurt, we're just trying to do the very best we can for her. It seems unfair to have to put an otherwise bright and healthy pet down.
Any donations raised beyond what is needed (or if we don't make the target, her care needs change etc) will be refunded or donated to an appropriate animal rescue charity.
