Update: I have changed the fundraiser amount to reflect a change in circumstances. This is now a surgery recovery and partial top surgery fund. Part of Aaron's chosen family have offered to loan a bit more than half of what is needed for surgery. I can't thank them enough. Current quotes are between $14-18,000

Hi, I’m Memphis, and I’m reaching out to you on behalf of my best friend and platonic life partner, Aaron.

I’ve known Aaron personally for over 10 years, and in that time, I’ve come to see him as an extraordinary person—an incredibly hard-working, blue-collar, queer individual in his late 40s who has navigated life with grace and resilience. He embodies the essence of secure attachment and has taught me so much about love, generosity, and community.

Admittedly, I am a stan (super fan), as the kids would call it, so I'll try to keep it short here, describing my favourite person on the planet.

Aaron is a quiet contributor. Always looking for ways to lend practical support but never one to do so, performatively. The kind of human I've come to know- that would give a stranger his last dollar. As a very private person, It's difficult for Aaron to ask for this kind of support. But he is never slow to provide it to others. Preferably, anonymously. Haha. He taught me that being kind to others, was also a kindness that we do, to ourselves :)

For about 15 years, Aaron has been pursuing gender-affirming surgery, a deeply personal journey that holds the potential to significantly enhance his quality of life. Living in a world that often presents challenges for transgender individuals, Aaron’s strength and determination are truly remarkable.

However, the journey has not been easy. I have struggled with long-term mental health challenges, and Aaron has been my unwavering support through it all. Caring for someone with these difficulties can be a significant strain, and while we've come close a few times to gathering the funds needed, economic hurdles have repeatedly drained our efforts. We both realize this is a really big ask, especially in the current cost of living and housing crisis. However, even a contribution of $5, $10, or $20 can go a long way toward making this dream a reality.

Meeting this goal will close a long and extended chapter of Aaron's life. Once it's done, he will have the closure he deserves and be able to exist in a body that feels appropriate.
