April Cox’s Pancreatic Tumor Removal Surgery

Hello, and thank you so much for reading our story! In October of 2018, my wife, April, was dealing with lower abdominal pain. It was initially thought to be a sever UTI or kidney infection. She was treated for the suspected UTI and sent home, only to be brought back to the ER a few days later with a suspected kidney stone that was accompanied with severe lower back and abdominal pain. During this visit to the ER a CAT scan was performed, and a mass was detected by her pancreas. Since that initial tumor detection, all her appointments have been conducted at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, which is a significant distance from our home in Harlingen, TX. After two biopsies this past winter and multiple tests and hospital stays, her personal cancer doctors at MD Anderson have decided that performing a “Whipple Surgery”, which is a removal of the grapefruit sized tumor, the head of her pancreas, gall bladder, and upper portion of the small intestine, is in her best interest. It will be performed in late June (24) of this year, which will require her to be off work for 8-12 weeks. We are asking for donations to help cover the expenses already accrued, and the remaining medical procedures, medications, hospital bills, etc. We have a hefty goal of reaching $50,000. My wife is currently a student at UTRGV and is pursuing a career in nursing. She is also a lover of art and nature.
