Appy Time For Learning

Appy Time For Learning is beginning its sixth year in supporting the academic achievement needs of early learners who are growing up in poverty and are performing below grade-level expectations.  Each week, we provide weekly reading and math instruction on a 1:1 basis for 100 students ranging from grades Pre-K through first grade using technology.  We serve two schools; Mary Ann Winterling Elementary in southwest Baltimore City and Carroll County Head Start in Westminster, MD. 


When we walk into the school building, we are greeted with smiles, hellos, hugs, and the excited shouts, “Today is Appy Time!” Each student knows they will spend precious 1:1 time learning with someone who cares deeply about them as an individual. They often share the heartache stories about home life, the lack of a safe place or the challenges of food insecurities.  Then, we hear about the things of childhood that bring joy…a birthday party or an overnight at a cousin’s house, and we are reminded that we are there to celebrate life with them and share kindness and provide hope, as well as academics.


During these challenging times surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, technology is playing an ever-increasing part in education.  Schools have increased their online learning instruction and many of our students have connectivity and device barriers. This is where you can be a huge help!  We have decided to provide activity boxes with “hands-on” learning activities to enrich their education beyond the “screen.” Your donation will help us as we purchase 80 learning boxes that contain “hands-on” language arts and math activities students can use at home during independent learning and family time fun.  Please join us in investing in the life of a child’s education.  Our goal is to raise $1,000.00 by October 15, 2020.
