As a small, non-profit preschool in San Jose, CA, APPS has served thousands of preschool children and families for over 50 years. At a key time in the lives of young families, APPS has created a diverse and encouraging community where families can connect with each other in a cooperative school environment to learn how to be the best parents they can be.

"As a former parent and teacher at APPS I realize what a big impact belonging to this caring group provided me. Nearly all my closest friends are from contacts with school. I started as a parent in 1973 and followed that with 30 years as a teacher. The strong feelings of understanding and empathy exhibited by the members is a driving force. Even in these trying times families are working together to provide a positive education for their pre-schoolers even if only online."
From Betsy Ding, alumni and former Director for 27 years:
"This school has been an essential part of the San Jose’s parent participation education program. The reduced enrollment due to the Pandemic has forced the program to go virtual and as the staff struggles to hold classes online, the reduced enrollment has cut into the income while many of the expenses for rent, maintenance, repair and replacement of supplies remain the same. To support this 51 year non-profit preschool while it serves the families of South San Jose, I hope the community steps up to the plate with donations to the GO FUND ME page."

Almaden Parents’ Preschool was founded in 1969 by a group of parents in south San Jose who wanted to participate in their children’s early childhood education. They formulated a philosophy that was based on sequential intellectual (or cognitive) development.
The parents wanted to be present with their children and witness their growth and new discoveries, and used a co-op preschool model. Together, parents and teachers would create an environment that would be happy, safe, and secure so that the children could grow physically, emotionally, socially and intellectually.
The school opened in September 1969 at its present location with 72 member families. APPS continues to develop the whole child through the dedication of its teachers and the active participation of parents.
