<div>Bewegen kan enorm helpen bij het stabiliseren van je bloedglucose. Minder insuline nodig, betere opname, minder pieken en dalen – het klinkt eenvoudig, maar vraagt doorzettingsvermogen. Dat weet ik uit ervaring: als gymdocent én als iemand die al 23 jaar leeft met type 1 diabetes.

<div>In mijn werk zie ik steeds vaker kinderen met type 1. Zij staan midden in het leven – school, puberteit, sociale druk – en hebben daarnaast te dealen met hun diabetes. Hoge glucosewaardes liggen op de loer, met serieuze gevolgen voor hun gezondheid. Beweging kan daarbij het verschil maken.

<div>Daarom richtte ik Stichting Diabeweeg op en ontwikkelde ik een app die kinderen uitdaagt door middel van beweegchallenges. Op hun eigen niveau, tegen de klok, met punten, levels en vooral: samen. Want samen bewegen is leuker én motiverender. Zo maken we van bewegen een gewoonte, onderdeel van het dagelijks leven.
