Save Applegate Valley Historical Society Museum

Help us save our quaint little Museum in downtown Applegate, Oregon

The Applegate Valley Historical Society started in 1989 by Myrtle Krouse. We acquired an 18-foot by 18-foot hand hewed log building, which had been a general store here in Applegate in the late 1860’s.
With the help of Roar & Mary Kjaer and John Pernoll, by giving us the land to put it on. They did this in 1993. With the help of local clubs and community volunteers, we were able to open to the public in May of 1997.
Our founder and benefactor, Myrtle Krouse, had the first display of her personal articles of yesteryear. Since then, we borrow items from local folks for our display.
Since that time, we have faced many challenges. There were a few years that we were low on volunteers and funds. But we remained a historical society according to the state requirements. We met every so often to try and figure out what to do next.
Then Covid-19 hit and changed our course. We were hit in 2019 with a possible law suit by the adjoining neighbor wanting the land. They thought that AVHS was no longer in business because we were not open as much. We tried to work the problem out, explaining that we were still in existence, per the Secretary of State Corporate Division in Oregon, registration number is 17918780, and through Jackson County the account number is 10811520, which states AVHS owns the land, but to no avail. Then in 2023 we received a complaint and summons. NOW we face the lawsuit.
We are seeking donations to help our cause.
The amount at this time is $30,000.00.
We are in hopes that some of the funds will be used for not only our court fees but also for landscaping the grounds and better signage.
