**URGENT** Appeal for Help for Natalia Yovanos
To fellow Davis Scholar Alumnae, FB family, and friends of Natalia Yovanos
I am reaching out to all of you on behalf of Natalia Yovanos (DS '96) who is in urgent need of our collective help. Natalia is in a dire financial crisis. Due to a longer than anticipated period of unemployment, Natalia has fallen behind on her mortgage payments and the lender has initiated a public auction of her home for next Tuesday, January 23rd. Natalia is distraught. She needs to postpone/delay the foreclosure until she secures full time employment (most likely within a month) and will be financially able to resume her mortgage payments.
Natalia spent last week reaching out to the Attorney General's Office, several 'pro bono' and 'free legal aid clinics' as well as private attorney's for assistance but was unsuccessful. She was told they simply had too long a waiting list of clients to help her prior to the scheduled auction date. Natalia filed two motions - a ten (10) day restraining order and a thirty (30) day extension appeal but was told there was 'absolutely no guarantee' they would be approved/granted.
Natalia's ONLY option to stop the foreclosure auction is to retain a bankruptcy attorney to represent her. To do so, she needs $3500.00 to retain the attorney. Natalia has absolutely no financial resources. What few personal belongings of value she had were sold to keep her utility bills current. She also appealed to public assistance for help and was referred to the pro bono / free legal clinics referenced above. Natalia has no family to help her.
I am reaching out to all Davis Scholars Alumnae - as well as others who know and are either FB friends and/or personal friends of Natalia - for Help. Those of you who know - or have met Natalia - know of her kindness, her compassion, and her exceptional generosity (more often than not given anonymously) to anyone in need. Natalia has spent the majority of her life as a caregiver; a woman whose hands and heart were always extended to give, to aid, and to help others - Never to ask or take for herself. But now, Natalia needs any help you can give her.
Although time is of the essence, any amount you can donate is desperately needed to retain the attorney to stop this foreclosure - and to help keep Natalia in her home and avoid eviction - as soon as it is received. On a hopeful closing note, Natalia may be less than a month away from securing full time employment. Please send prayers her way. Please Help Our Friend.
