I’m a rising senior at the SUNY College of Agriculture and Technology at Cobleskill (Upstate NY) in the Wildlife Management, BT program. I’ve been working my tail off nonstop since January 2010 when I enrolled at Hudson Valley Community College. My whole stint there, I was enrolled as a full time student and working full time to pay for everything. I obtained my Associates in Liberal Arts – Math & Sciences, while graduating with honors in May of 2012. I enrolled in Cobleskill that fall, and have been struggling financially ever since, but it has been worth every aching moment. I’m a bartender at a local restaurant, the treasurer of the SUNY Cobleskill Student Chapter of The Wildlife Society, and the past president of the Community Service Club. I was a Teacher’s Assistant last semester and a tutor my first semester at “Coby.” I have a 3.91 GPA and I’ll be graduating in May 2015… then “big girl” life starts.
This January, the school has an organized trip to the Galapagos for students in good academic standing. It’s been a huge dream of mine to be immersed in the wild, experience a new country, get out of my comfort zone, and learn about a new place. I’m immensely passionate about both land and sea creatures. The Galapagos is a very unique place… the wildlife is incredibly diverse- there are creatures found here that are found nowhere else in the world. This type of opportunity has never been within my grasp and I am extremely hopeful that I will be able to go before a career and grad school take over my life.
A trip like this has been a dream of mine for a long time… Only I still can’t afford to go. This is why I’m reaching out to my friends and family and the GoFundMe world. I’ve been working so hard for so many years and this is something I want to experience so badly. I’m not one to look for charity… all my life, I’ve paid my debts (as well as the debts of others)… but I humbly ask for your assistance this time. Every little bit will help me along the way. My goal is $5000… this will cover my airfare, lodging, food, insurance, etc. I’m also going to be working very hard to save my own money.
