</div>
<div>Espera-se que a universidade seja um espaço seguro de partilha e construção de conhecimento. No entanto, é tendencialmente um lugar de violência normalizada e silenciada, que afeta desproporcionalmente as mulheres, desviando as suas trajetórias, comprometendo as suas aspirações profissionais e danificando a sua saúde mental.

<div><strong>Quem somos?</strong>
</div>
<div>Somos um coletivo internacional de mulheres, de diferentes áreas profissionais e com diferentes perfis, que partilham experiências de violência sofrida no Centro de Estudos Sociais da Universidade de Coimbra, enquanto estudantes ou investigadoras. A maior parte de nós foi confrontada com assédio ou abusos no âmbito de projetos coordenados por Boaventura de Sousa Santos (cometido por ele ou por pessoas que protegia).

<div>Une-nos a convicção de que é urgente quebrar o silêncio sobre a violência em contexto universitário e denunciar as nossas experiências de assédio moral e sexual, abuso de poder e extractivismo intelectual.

<div><strong>Como nos juntámos para denunciar?</strong>
</div>
<div>Juntamo-nos em abril de 2023, na sequência de uma <a href="https://www.researchgate.net/publication/368860052_The_walls_spoke_when_no_one_else_would_Autoethnographic_notes_on_sexual-power_gatekeeping_within_avant-garde_academia" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">publicação que expôs um padrão de assédio e abuso </a> de poder na instituição liderada por Boaventura de Sousa Santos. A discussão que essa publicação levantou forçou o Centro de Estudos Sociais a confrontar-se com um problema que, até então, circulava apenas em redes de sussurro e em pichagens que surgiram nas paredes da Universidade de Coimbra, com o conteúdo: “Fora Boaventura! Todas sabemos!”.

<div><strong>O que mudou em abril de 2023?</strong>
</div>
<div>Pela primeira vez, entre nós, partilhámos abertamente as nossas histórias, na sua complexidade e gravidade, ficando claro que elas encaixam entre si e, no seu conjunto, revelam um padrão alarmante de violência, que decidimos não mais aceitar, independentemente das retaliações que viéssemos a sofrer.

<div><strong>O que nos move?</strong>
</div>
<div>Procuramos o reconhecimento da verdade, a reparação pelos danos sofridos e garantias de não-repetição, para que não voltemos a ser agredidas e para que outras mulheres não passem por aquilo que passámos. Não buscamos vingança, mas justiça e dignidade, para nós e para todas as mulheres na academia, na sua diversidade.

<div><strong>A que fins concretos se destina o apoio que solicitamos?</strong>
</div>
<div>As vítimas de violência enfrentam processos caros e demorados quando tentam responsabilizar os abusadores e as instituições que falharam em protegê-las. Nesse sentido, o caminho da justiça torna-se, com frequência, inacessível.
</div>
<div><strong>O apoio financeiro que buscamos destina-se exclusivamente a financiar as despesas legais das vítimas, de modo a garantir que nenhuma vítima terá que enfrentar o sistema de justiça sem recursos ou terá que desistir de procurar justiça por falta de recursos.</strong>

<div><strong>Cada doação fará uma diferença real, contribuindo para o acesso à justiça e para que as vozes das vítimas sejam ouvidas.</strong>

<div><strong>Que processos judiciais estão em curso?</strong>
</div>
<div>O Ministério Público abriu uma investigação na sequência da nossa 6ª carta aberta e dos resultados da comissão independente no CES. Para levarmos em frente as nossas denúncias, necessitamos de recursos que cubram os honorários das advogadas e as custas judiciais.
</div>
<div>Além disso, tomamos conhecimento pela comunicação social de que Boaventura de Sousa Santos intentou ações judiciais contra as vítimas. Os custos desses processos irão somar-se aos custos que tínhamos previsto inicialmente.

</div>
<div>Universities are expected to be safe spaces for sharing and building knowledge. However, they can often be places where violence is normalized and silenced. This violence disproportionately affects women, diverting their career paths, compromising their professional aspirations, and damaging their mental health.

<div><strong>Who Are We?</strong>

<div>We are an international collective of women from different professional backgrounds and profiles who share experiences of violence suffered as students or as researchers at the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra. Most of us encountered violence while working on projects or activities Boaventura de Sousa Santos coordinated.

<div><strong>What brings us together?</strong>
</div>
<div>What brings us together is the urgency to break the silence about violence in academia and to speak out about our particular experiences of moral and sexual harassment, abuse of power, and intellectual extractivism.

<div><strong>How did we come together to speak out?</strong>
</div>
<div>We came together in April 2023 following a <a href="https://www.researchgate.net/publication/368860052_The_walls_spoke_when_no_one_else_would_Autoethnographic_notes_on_sexual-power_gatekeeping_within_avant-garde_academia" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">publication that exposed a pattern of harassment a</a> nd abuse of power at the institution led by Boaventura de Sousa Santos. This publication forced the Centre for Social Studies to confront an issue that had previously only circulated through whisper networks and was later expressed through graffiti, reading: "Boaventura out! We all know!"

<div><strong>What changed in April 2023?</strong>
</div>
<div>For the first time, we shared our stories openly, in all their complexity and severity. We realized that our stories fit together and revealed an alarming pattern of violence. After making this observation, we decided to no longer accept the violence, regardless of the retaliation we might face.

<div><strong>What Drives Us?</strong>
</div>
<div>We seek recognition of the truth, reparations for the harm we have suffered, and guarantees that the violence we endured does not repeat so that we are not abused again and so that other women do not experience what we went through. We are not seeking revenge but justice and dignity for ourselves and all women in academia, in their diversity.

<div><strong>What is the Purpose of the Support?</strong>
</div>
<div>Victims of violence face costly and lengthy legal processes when trying to hold their abusers and the institutions that failed to protect them accountable. As a result, the path to justice often becomes inaccessible.
</div>

<div><strong>The financial support we seek is exclusively intended to fund the victims' legal expenses, ensuring that no one will face the justice system without resources or give up their pursuit of justice due to a lack of financial means.</strong>

<div><strong>What Legal Processes Are Underway?</strong>
</div>
<div>The Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation following our sixth open letter and the findings of the Independent Commission at CES. We need financial resources to cover the cost of legal representation and all other costs associated by the court to pursue our complaints.
</div>
<div>Additionally, we learned from the media that Boaventura de Sousa Santos has filed lawsuits against his victims. The costs of these cases will add to the expenses we had not initially foreseen.
