As Australia continues to be devastated by unprecedented bushfires, we know that almost every person in our community has been affected in some way. This horrific bushfire season has already had untold impact on our families, friends, neighbours and wildlife. But, throughout this catastrophe, we have also seen incredible examples of resilience and courage and the unique spirit that defines Australian communities.
As an organisation built on creating strong, healthy communities, we know we simply cannot stand by without offering support in some way. We have made an initial pledge of $50,000 to be split equally between two grassroots relief funds – the Southern Highlands Mayoral Relief Fund and the Shoalhaven City Council Mayor's Relief Fund.
While there are many worthy large and small scale organisations to donate to, we have decided on these two charitable funds to help channel money to local people in areas close to our hearts. We believe that through these funds, we will be able to assist people as they eventually move into the recovery phase and try to rebuild their hearts, homes and livelihoods.
In addition to this pledge, we have also set up this Aoyuan International Red Cross Bushfire Appeal, where we will match your donations, dollar for dollar, up to $50,000 with all funds going directly to the Australian Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund.
