Antonio was born in Potrerillos, Jalisco, Mexico January 16, 1951

Born into a family of musicians, he began playing the violin at age 9.

The oldest of ten children, he left Mexico at the age of 19 to join Mariachi Los Galleros de Pedro Rey in Los Angeles. He eventually settled in San Jose, California. He played with various local Mariachi Groups including Mariachi Los Rancheros de Juan Fernandez, performing and  touring  with the Ballet folklorico de Carlos Moreno. Antonio was known for his beautiful, traditional, yet unique third harmonies both on violin and vocals. He was a mentor to many.

In 1995 he became a founding member of Mariachi Santa Cecilia where he was one of the main musical directors and arrangers. This was his longest run and he made the group his home for 22 years. Toño, as he was affectionately known by his compañeros, had a heart of gold and a special affection for children and animals.

Recently he had struggled with complications due to diabetes that led to the amputation of his leg. His courage and perseverance led him to come back strong using a prosthetic leg. He and his wife Pat, who had also become disabled in a severe work injury, worked together to support one another, both financially and physically. Then suddenly on Tuesday morning, Antonio suffered a sudden heart attack, leaving his family and compañeros stunned and in disbelief. The family is need of assistance for his memorial services. Any support is greatly appreciated.
