Anthony’s Surgery & Rehab Fund

Hello everyone. As you know my name is Anthony Davis and I’m a sickle cell disease warrior. Two years ago after a routine tcd ultrasound, I showed abnormal activity on the right side of my brain. Shortly afterwards I had an MRI that showed the damage my be worse than the doctors thought. I then had an angiogram completed. The results of that showed two completely blocked arteries in my neck, one artery about 50% blocked, the fourth artery extremely bigger as a result of doing the work of the blocked two. It also showed an aneurysm on the larger artery.

Who would have known?  I’ve had no symptoms of anything. The doctors were shocked that I hadn’t experienced any medical episodes. I recently went back in October of this year for a two year follow up angiogram. My wife and I hoped for a miracle. The findings were not what we expected. The artery that was at 50% blockage was even narrower and the overworked artery was bigger. At this point the doctor let me know that my best chance for long term survival would be to have brain surgery. This surgery would entail rerouting blood flow to the right side of my brain to take some of the work off the two remaining unblocked arteries I have. It was without hesitation that my wife and I decided to have the surgery vs wait and something happen to me. I am scheduled to undergo the procedure on November 30, just 5 days after my 39th birthday.

Where many would be scared, I am calm. I had gone so long this way without knowing, without experiencing any issues. The doctors said I was a walking miracle. I know this to be true because when I was younger, doctors told my parents I wouldn’t live past the age of 16, but here I am today, strong in faith and defying the odds placed against me. I know that God has His hands on me. That’s evident in my living everyday.

After the surgery, I will be out of work for a minimum of 6 weeks, depending how I recover. My wife will be out of work and caring for me and our children during this time. Insurance will cover a fair amount of these bills, but not all. Short and long term disability will only go so far. We are just asking for any type of help towards the surgery bills, after care, post op, and daily goings during this time. Prayers are also greatly appreciated.

Thank you and God bless you all.

Update as of 12/2/2020

I had surgery on 11/30/2020 and it was a success. God truly had His hands on me and He worked through the surgeons. I was discharged from the hospital today. So glad to be home with my family. Now the healing process can begin. I will be home for 6 weeks and my wife will be here to help me. I just want to thank those that have given or desired to give. Also to those that prayed, thank you. Only getting better day by day.
