HELP OUR FAMILY FIND ANSWERS and CLOSURE
My son, D'Mario Perkins, was killed during a traffic stop with two white Memphis police officers, on July 25, 2018. The M.E. report says it was suicide, but there were only three people present D'Mario is dead, so that means they used the word of the two suspect cops. He was a brand new father and had just celebrated his 29th birthday. If he expressed suicidal thoughts, why wasn't the Crisis Intervention Team called in? There have been no answers and no support. They have stolen my closure!
The M.E. completed the autopsy within two days of his death, but I did not receive it until June 2019. Why? What are they hiding? One officer was allowed to resign before I even knew he was involved in D'Mario's death. What was his role?
I sought help from local pastors, activists, and attorneys. They told me they would handle my case delicately. They left me waiting for answers while keeping me away from the media and telling me to stay out of the news. Where was the compassion for a tormented mother? What happened to decency? I know now I was too trusting in my pain because they preyed on my vulnerability and made me believe they were there to help. They may have shut me down and shut me out, but they can never shut me up.
I demand answers and justice.
Now, a year after D'Mario's death, we have no new answers, and no one willing to help because we trusted the wrong people. We need your support to find representation, do our legwork, and continue to speak out about the mistreatment of many families like ours.
