Long-tailed deer needs YOUR help!

This beautiful creature is my boy, Brewer. He's nicknamed a long-tailed deer because... look at him.  This is him in his hunting vest, as to not be confused with his cousins during hunting season.

Brewer used to be a racer...A fast one! The average greyhound races about 40-50 times, and he raced 120 times! In that period he won 20 races and got second place in another 18 races under the alias "Awkward Silence".

After coming home he continued to be fast. Brewer was the fastest thing on four feet! He liked the wide open spaces on the Oregon coast because he loves digging in with his paws and really flying!

But what's really amazing about brewer is how friendly he is. He has been useful in training dogs with PTSD to be calm around new company. This is his friend, Eva. He doesn't mind sharing his bed with an ex bait-dog; she's warm.

As the years went on he slowed down a bit, but up until his accident he got up and sprinted every day, however short the distance.

He's been the best friend of many of us since his rescuing eight years ago and we're in trouble...

When I was away at work last Friday signs indicated a serious fall. I came home to see Brewer laying in his own feces unable to get up.  He broke his leg in a location that's uncommon in simple falls; his femur. Whatever happened to cause the accident, he was in need of serious medical aid.

The doctor's saw clear sign of a broken leg, but femurs are very sturdy bones that shouldn't break by simply falling. One of the causes for this cold be bone cancer, but we can't know until we fix the break.

However we can't fix the break until we have at least five thousand  ($5,167) dollars to pay the low-end of the surgery estimates. The high end of the surgery is estimated to cost $6,512 with the chance for it to go up from there.

The medical bills are in such a state that if we don't get help to perform these procedures, he won't make it to see another beautiful Oregon summer, but the procedures need to be done in a timely manner or he can catch a blood clot and have a stroke and a painful death.

We are waiting to see if this crowdfunding thing helps, but if it doesn't the end is nigh for the long-tailed deer. We're at a loss for how to account for all of this, and can't fathom putting our retired racer down for breaking his leg.
