Donations will be prioritised for organisations and groups operating on the ground in Gaza in the present moment. We’re working with the filmmaker Emily Jacir, who directs the Dar Jacir Center for Art and Research in Bethlehem, which has just been ransacked by Israeli Occupation Forces. This will allow us to get money to grassroots organisations offering medical and legal relief. The first set of donations will be sent after a week, on Tuesday the 25th of May, as the crowdfunding platform we’ve opted for allows us to begin sending money after that interval. The link to their press release about the damage is here  and extract below:

"As many of you know, two nights ago Israeli occupation forces broke into and raided Dar Yusuf Nasri Jacir for Art & Research. We wanted to let you know first and foremost all team members and resident artists are safe. There has been extensive damage throughout the building. The offices were ransacked, and equipment was taken including phones, computer, hard drive, cameras, books and more.

Earlier in the week we lost our Urban Farm which was burnt to the ground during several fires which surrounded the house and our artists were forced to leave and seek shelter elsewhere as the area was and remains unsafe.

We are still in the process of understanding the extent of the damage as this assault has affected personal items of our residents, ongoing collective projects, as well as items related to our library. We will keep you posted as we continue to assess the situation.

In the last 48 hours we have done our best to secure the space from further assault and damage. We began by cleaning the various cannisters, bullets and other projectiles from our garden."

From Emily Jacir:

"There has been extensive damage throughout the building. The offices were ransacked, and equipment was taken including phones, computer, hard drive, cameras, books and more. We lost our Urban Farm which was burnt to the ground during several fires which surrounded the house and our artists were forced to leave and seek shelter elsewhere as the area was and remains unsafe. We are still in the process of understanding the extent of the damage as this assault has affected personal items of our residents, ongoing collective projects, as well as items related to our library. We will keep you posted as we continue to assess the situation. The priority for funds right now are to use them to replace all the broken glass windows throughout, rebuild the retaining walls of the terraces, fix all doors and replace locks, and clean-up. We will need to construct a heavy wrought iron wall around the property which will be very costly. Later we will begin to find ways to replace equipment and rebuild the urban farm."

We also want to help organisations and institutions that promote filmmaking in Gaza, restoration projects for older Palestinian films, and cultural centres for refugees in the Occupied Palestinian Territories and more. As this programme was assembled quickly in response to the present crisis, we do not yet have a complete list of the organisations and institutions to which we will donate, but we will update this section throughout the month as our knowledge grows and we continue to appreciate feedback.

This is the list of the organisations that we are planning on donating to as it stands at present:

Friends of PMRS https://friendsofpmrs.org/
Eltiqa: http://www.eltiqa.com/
London Palestine Film Festival https://www.palestinefilm.org.uk

PLEASE NOTE / ABOUT ANOTHER GAZE & ANOTHER SCREEN

A portion of the donations will also be used to pay the Zoom fees (for our upcoming event around this programme), Vimeo fees, website charges, English to Arabic translation fees and editing fees associated with hosting these films and running events around them throughout the month. Our programmer/web designer will not be paid. We only use donations to pay the immediate costs of creating the platform and assembling the programme: everything else will be directed to the aforementioned causes.

The programme is entirely free and Another Gaze is completely unfunded. From the creation of the journal in 2016, most of our tiny team of three people has worked for free, and the rest of us have worked for very little. Our journal’s founding-editor and programmer and creator of Another Screen has never been paid. If you are interested in supporting our work more generally, a link to our Patreon  and Another Gaze donations page can be found below .

We are also looking for patrons and channels for sustainable funding, and if anyone has any advice or guidance please contact us here
