Sibling Picnic: A special day
Each October several Tucson children’s service agencies, under the leadership of the Sibling Picnic committee, Aviva Children’s Services, organize and implement a very special event, the Sibling Picnic. On this special day, foster children from the Tucson area are gathered to meet this brothers and/or sisters. Many people may not know that many foster children live in different homes and live separately from one another all year. This picnic event provides the one opportunity during the year for them to be together. Approximately 100 children attend.

This day begins with brothers and/or sisters seeing one another again. Then, it is off to field events (soccer, baseball, basketball, flag football), arts and crafts, mask making, face painting and just being together. These activities are guided by volunteers: community firefighters, police officers, social agency staffs, members of the Sibling Picnic team and Pantano Rotarians.  A special event of the day is the “photo opt”. When the children arrive, each sibling family gathers and a portrait taken by a Pantano Rotarian and her husband. At day’s end, each child receives a gift of their family portrait, a special memory from a special day. Additionally, children are provided backpacks and "surprise gifts".

As volunteers, it is always heartwarming to see the joy and excitement on the faces of children when they reunite with brothers and /or sisters. A sense of family is so special. Please join us in “celebrating family” and this reunion for children.

Your donation will be used to fund the materials, food, refreshments and family portraits.

Because of the challenges of the Coronavirus, we are implementing a new way to raise fund Pantano Rotary community projects. The primary focus on this fundraiser is the Sibling Picnic. Sixty percent (60%) of the funds raised will go to the Sibling Picnic project while 40% of the funds will be used to support the Pantano Rotary Club Foundation’s other community projects: youth leadership training, local school district health fair, holiday food boxes, Alzheimer project, and the like.

Please join our 15-20 minute Zoom meeting on Wednesday, April 21st, at 7:00pm to find our more about the Sibling Picnic and how you can donate to this worthy cause.  We hope to see you there.
