When Annie was four years old, her mother began to notice that her abdominal area was rather big and her eyes and skin abnormally yellow. They later found out that she had an abnormally large spleen. The doctor had suggested splenectomy, but her mother did not want her to continue living with constant check ups since she would be more susceptible to getting sick.
On February 17th, 2018 Annie was rushed to the ER due to severe heartburn, acid reflux, and discomfort in her chest. After being examined, the doctor stated that due to Annie’s enlarged spleen, the liver had weakened and was creating gallstones in her gallbladder. The doctors offered to proceed with a splenectomy and cholecystectomy operation, which is a surgical procedure to remove the spleen and gallbladder. With Annie’s consent, the surgery was scheduled on February 23rd, 2018.
However, several hours after the surgery, Annie was taken to the ICU on account of respiratory problems and pain in her abdomen. The following morning, she was given a breathing tube. After scanning her, it was found that the cause of her problems were due to an accidental tear in her stomach during the surgery, resulting in her organs getting burned by stomach acid. Another surgery was on the way to help fix the tear and wash out the stomach acid residing in her body. From thereon after, pressure built up in her stomach from the acid, and all the fluids she was receiving went straight to her tissue, bloating her up. On February 25th, the surgeons proposed a third surgery to remove the air that had resulted because of the stomach acid. The surgery had a 10-20% of success, but it was Annie’s only chance at bouncing back from her declining health. Despite her weak health, Annie has always been able to pull through because of her strong personality. The surgery turned out to be a success, but her organs began failing. On February 26th, 2018, Annie passed away.
Annie had always been a stubborn girl who put on a strong front. Ever since she was young, she was never afraid to stand with her judgment. Many people misunderstood that as her being a hot headed person, but once you get to know her, she was actually a really sweet girl that would give her all to care for those that she loved. Please help us with what you can to give Annie a proper burial.
Annie will be remembered and loved for many years onward.
