Annie D's Medical Fund

Many moons ago, Ann D’Eramo aka Annie Deramo diverged from the well-trodden path of security to an uncharted path of compassionate service.  All creatures great and small, two-legged and four-legged, have been tended and nurtured by her dedication, devotion, and care as she herself led a quiet, simple life of love and kindness.  She has helped so many, and now needs your help as she turns her energy and limited resources to healing from cancer.  If you can lend a hand to Annie who has extended her hand to so many, it would be greatly appreciated. 



After being diagnosed with malignant tumors in her jaw, tonsils, nasal passage, and neck, Annie spent months pursuing alternative treatments. Finally she paid to travel and receive treatment from the MD Anderson Cancer Treatment Center in Texas, only to be denied treatment by the Center. She paid her way to return to Hawaii for conventional treatment. In February of this year, she began a course of treatment that has included radiation and chemotherapy. The treatments appear to be successful in treating the cancer (she will know more in August), but have left Annie in an extremely weakened state. She is currently living in a home that provides adult foster care (at $5,000 per month.)   She also bears the heavy cost of personal care supplies, food, medication, medical supplies and medical appointments. It now appears she will need surgery to repair her palate which was damaged by the radiation and has greatly effected her ability to speak clearly and swallow.


The optimistic prognosis is that after two years she will have recovered to a "new normal" life. During this time her only income is a small Social Security payment. Annie will not be able to work in the near future for certain, after that the future is unknown.
