Fight Anne's Malignant Brain Tumor

On June 22, we discovered that Anne has a stage IV multi-focal Glioblastoma in her left temporal lobe. The symptoms came on very quickly; she had been complaining about her vision deteriorating in her right eye, and just days later started to slur her speech. She was immediately taken to the ER where a CT scan (and later biopsy) revealed an aggressive, inoperable, cancerous brain tumor, and we were absolutely shocked. Just that week she was out swimming, gardening, hiking, and living a normal life. This is our mom, wife, sister, aunt, and friend, and we want to do everything possible to help her and her family get through this devastating time.

The doctors told us that if we did nothing, she would have about 4 weeks to live. Thankfully, with the help of modern medicine, we have been able to do our best to fight this with chemotherapy and radiation treatment. Anne has always been a fighter; having previously battled Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. After being in the hospital for a few weeks, she was released and is now working with a physical therapist, speech therapist, and occupational therapist to re-learn how to do simple everyday tasks that most of us take for granted. Day by day, little bits of progress are being made, and for that we are so grateful. Because this type of tumor grows so rapidly, we don’t know how much time we have left with her, but we are grateful for each day we do get. We are dependent upon chemotherapy, radiation, thoughts, prayers, and miracles. A lot of unknowns lay ahead for the Benson family, but the recurring cost of medical expenses is something that we know is in the future.
