The Pacific Crest Trail--
My journey begins on the border of Mexico and California. On Saturday April 18th, 2015 I will hike 2,650 miles north to Canada. Yes, walking from Mexico to Canada!
WHY? - I've had a few people ask me why on earth I'm choosing to hike for 6 months. The best answer I can come up with is why not? What better way to see California, Oregon and Washington than by foot?
My goals - To hike the ENTIRE Pacific Crest Trail safely with a smile on my face. :)
How I'm preparing -
Can you imagine buying everything you need for the next 6 months?
Now, try to put that all in a backpack.
It's a little overwhelming but I'm taking it step by step.
I'm buying gear, putting together resupply boxes to mail to myself, and learning new skills such as map reading and snow hiking. Not to mention all the logistics such as trail permits, resupply drops, where to filter water and where to sleep everynight.
Did I mention I'm also working full time?
Right now I'm in West Texas at Big Bend National Park working on the trail crew. Working on the crew is helping me get my body ready since we hike to work almost every day. When I'm not at work, I'm planning for the PCT. While feverishly preparing, I suddenly realized something horrifying: I'm running out of funds! Since I will be carrying everything I need to survive for 6 months on my back, it needs to be lightweight. Lightweight gear is much more expensive. I am also a committed vegetarian, and want to make sure that I can meet all my own needs. I have less than 2 months of work left until I hit the trail. I've finally accepted that I need help. I've had a few people ask me how they could support my dream of hiking of the PCT and this is it! I could really use your financial help! Every little bit will get me closer to my goal.
