Annabel says: "My bike for a trike"

Hi, my name is Annabel and I am 10 years old, almost 11. I have Developmental Co-ordination Disorder, which is a chronic neurological disorder that affects the planning of how I move my body as well as affecting my co-ordination skills because brain messages are not being accurately transmitted to my body. In my case it affects everything I do: gross motor, fine motor and oro-motor skills.
I have worked really hard at learning basic skills that other people take for granted, like learning to walk, run and jump (still working on that one). Or catching a ball and tying my shoe laces. And I always will have to work hard and practice lots to be able to do the things that come naturally to regular kids. I have always said "I have a 'can do' attitude" and that is still true. I will try everything, including playing sport, even if sometimes I feel like giving up because I will never be as coordinated or fast as my team mates are and it is really tiring to try and get my body to do the things I want it to do. Sometimes when people don't know me they make fun of me and call me names. It hurts to hear them say mean things about me but I try to ignore it and for it not to affect my self confidence. The doctors say I will never catch up, but I will learn ways to 'work around' the skills that I lack.
I'm a happy go lucky girl. I am really kind and caring and have a great positive attitude. But sometimes I wish I wasn't different. I wish I could do all the things my friends and class mates can do. Like riding a bicycle. Me and mum tried really hard for a very long time for me to master that skill but I just do not have the coordination and balancing skills to manage it. And so we went to this special shop where they make special trikes for children and adults who cannot ride a normal bike. (side note: I cannot believe how much more expensive these bikes are here in New Zealand after doing a bit of research for comparison with similar trikes in the United States! - it seems they are triple the price here!!)

That is me in the video when for the first time ever I felt like a normal 10 year old. I could ride a bike! But we didn't get to take the bike home. Mum cannot afford it because it is really expensive and even though she works very hard there is never any spare for extra's or special treats. All the money she earns from her work goes to pay our normal bills. We tried to get a grant from a disability sport foundation but we got turned down because they only fund equipment like that for children with physical disabilities and they didn't think I fit their criteria because mine is a disorder of the brain, even though it affects my physical skills. So now I still can't go bike riding with my friends or my mum and brother. Riding a bike would be great for my confidence and improve my independence . It would also help tremendously with improving my strength, coordination and balance too. It would make a nice change from the boring physio exercises I normally do. Can you make my dream come true? If we can get enough money to buy a special trike for me I will give away my bike that I cannot ride and is shown in the photo below to the family of a girl who cannot afford to buy her a bike. I think that's only fair.
