Anmitsu's FIP treatment

In May 12th 2020, we adopted our cat Animitsu.  As she was over a year old and this was her first home, it took her awhile to get adapted. 

She spent the first few nights howling for hours because she missed the other cats she lived with and did not like being in a new location. 

For the next month, she hide most of the day and would hiss every time we came into the room. 

We allowed her the time to get used to everything and eventually she got used our apartment and us. 

Now, 5 months later she has become a super sweet lap cat who greets with a meow and flop to the ground wanting lot of pets when we come home. 

End of the September we noticed that she was starting to be more cautious when climbing down and starting to have trouble squatting when cause her pee to fall outside of the litter box. 

We took her to the vet on September 29th and she said that she thinks that Anmitsu might have spained her ankle somehow which makes it difficult for her to jump down and squat.  We got pain medicine and change the litter box so it was easier for her.

However, over the next few days she started to eat less and less but at the same time her stomach start to swell a bit which we though was very strange. 

We took her took back to the vet on October 4th 2020 and that is when the vet suggested that Anmitsu may have FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis) which is a form of the coronavirus (a strain that affect cats) when it mutates and only affects cats under three years old. 

We did blood work and opted to take out the liquid that built up around her stomach which end up being 500cc. 

Then offically on October 6th 2020, Anmitsu was diagnozed with FIP wet type.

There are two types, dry and wet. 

Signs of both types include fever that doesn’t respond to antibiotics, anorexia, weight loss and lethargy. In addition, the wet form of FIP is characterized by accumulation of fluid in the abdominal cavity, the chest cavity, or both. 

FIP is a fast disease especially the wet type which will kill within a few days to a few months after the symptoms start to appear.

This is why Miki and I made the decision to go with the only option available which is very expensive and experimental. 

We did a lot of research and even connect other cat owners who their own cat took the medicine and now is healthy. 

Since this is fast acting disease we have already started the treatment on Octobe 8th 2020.  Animitsu was getting weaker everyday. She would hide and barely move all day. She was not eating on her own and had to feed through manually. 

Just after 3 days of treatment, her fever of 104F (which she had for over a week) broke and she was finally eating by herself.

We feel that our cat has become back to life. Though if we stop treatment at this time she will go back to being sick like before. 

This treatment needs to be continued for 84 days straight and each day at this time costs around 90 dollars. 

The cost of the medicine is also based around the weigh of the cats so she will only gain back the weight she lost therfore the cost of money will only go up.

Therefore, we are asking for any donation to help with the treatment of our cat Animtsu. It broke our hearts to think that our cat who is only 1 and half years old could die. 

We understand that due to the pandemic is still on going and many people may not have as much money right now but if you can spare any amount toward the treatment for our cat Anmitsu we will be totally grateful. 

In the case, we make more money than we need for her treatment we will donate to the NPO that helped us get the medicine for her.
