Anita's house fund, so she can keep saving people

Donation protected
My name is Doris Wakeman. I've been a part of a small group called Poco a Poco San Pedro Itzicán since 2017.

We support the work of Anita Torres Guererro in San Pedro Itzicán. We want to build a small house.

Anita's house will take 4 months to build and cost $17,300 Canadian Dollars.

Why support Anita?

Anita works in the area San Pedro Itzicán.
Here the young people suffer from one of the world's highest rates of Chronic Kidney Disease Unknown cause, extreme poverty, lack of calories and protein, overcrowded schools and little hope for the future.

Anita leads by example, improving herself, volunteering for many hours every day to the improve lives of the people for generations to come. She does this by recruiting local volunteers who also want to help their families and their communities.

During the last five years, Anita's work has grown from getting to know the community needs by walking between the towns to recruiting and training the youth to be the first responders, to:

• A program that now feeds over 700 children five days a week.

• A small traveling library for the kids

• Medical support, a couple small pharmacies and visits from volunteer dentists, doctors and a psychologist.

• A community food growing garden

• Education program for children not attending school as well as the elderly, with literacy training.

• A tortilla business owned by a group of women.

• Graduates of the hair dressing program are opening a salon and are now taking a level 2 course, also provided by a volunteer.

• Vocational training that builds pride.

• One of the youths recruited early on now attends Guadalajara University.

• Anita completed her social worker qualifications and has begun to study Political Science.

• The success has attracted NGO's and universities to volunteer alongside the locals to improve things for everyone.

A comprehensive study was recently organized by the Lila K Foundation. They organized and documented over 900 people for blood work and urine testing, some biopsies, and further follow-up. Many more people were identified as having various levels of renal disease.

The next step is for the medical experts to evaluate the data, prepare for peer review etc.. Then Anita and the Foundation will expand programs for early detection, special diets, kidney transplants, and education.

The president of the Lila K Foundation said that they could have not done this work without Anita and her team of her volunteers.

I can't describe how remarkable the progress caused by this one woman has been.

Anita recently received 'Good Neighbor' status from the community elders, which made it possible for her to buy a small piece of land for her future home.

At first, we imagined a small container home for her, so I wrote the Gofundme request that way.

The plan now is to build a small home of cement and stone that is more typical to the area. The cost of $17,500 is incredibly small still.

Thanks for all the support so far. Let’s reach the target. Please donate and share this Gofundme link. Little by little, together we can make a huge difference.

Poco a Poco San Pedro is the name of our little group. You can find us on the internet.

Thanks a ton,
Doris Wakeman
