Since "C.A.M.B.R.I.A.: Canines and More Being Rescued in America" became a non-profit in 2008, its founder Lorraine has been caring for and providing a permanent home for animals who were either abused neglected or lost their homes.
She has not been able to afford a staff, so she has been doing almost all of the work herself to maintain the 5-acre sanctuary that 140 animals now call home. There are horses (6 miniature), goats, geese, alpaca, pigs, ducks, chickens, cats, dogs, and more who all happily live together for the rest of their time on earth.
Lorraine has been spending $75,000 of her own money each year to care for and feed the animals. Though there have been some donations in the past, Lorraine has had to sell off several investment properties to maintain the sanctuary. There has been no money to hire a publicist or a grant-writer, and no time to allot to fundraising with the 8 hours a day she already spends caring for the animals. Not only are there veterinary expenses, but food alone costs almost $50,000 a year. She is ever improving and maintaining theanimal housing and shelters.
She has worked part time as a teacher to pay for the sanctuary, but is now 69, and the labor has become harder, especially after suffering physical injuries in two auto accidents in the past year which were not her fault. She needs to hire help and to buy a 4-wheel drive truck (to carry feed and transport animals) to replace the vehicle that was destroyed by another driver in a head-on collision.
Please donate to this worthy cause. Donations of vehicles and land are also welcomed!
The animals love Lorraine and she spends every moment loving them and making sure their later years are happy and healthy.
