Help Us Save 1000s of Animals

Donation protected
Did you know that domestic violence affects everyone in the family? Abusers often threaten to harm or even kill the animals in the family, in order to prevent their human victims from leaving. Since most domestic violence shelters do not accept animals, those looking to escape an abusive environment may choose not to do so in order to stay with and protect their animals.

Enter CARE services. CARE provides safe, temporary housing and other lifesaving services for animals affected by domestic violence, making it possible for more survivors to leave an abusive home. Animal Protection Voters makes CARE possible by successfully lobbying the state legislature for funding. Without Animal Protection Voters, CARE’s robust services would not exist.

Funding for CARE services is just one way that Animal Protection Voters helps prevent animal cruelty before it even starts. By working to pass laws that protect animals and elect lawmakers who share our humane values, we are having a profound, positive impact on all animals and communities throughout New Mexico and beyond.

We work diligently to give compassionate citizens a unified and powerful voice in the state capitol every year. Passing pro-animal laws benefits not only New Mexico, but also influences national policy and legislation, creating a kinder, more just society for us all.

In the upcoming 2019 state legislative session, we will be fighting to end coyote killing contests.

We know, it’s hard to believe that such things exist. Killing a vital species for prizes, with categories like “most killed” and “largest.” Even “youngest.” These disgraceful wildlife killing contests happen throughout the year, every year, in New Mexico, bringing an ugly, cruel practice—and the public hazards associated with it—to the state. Most killing contests take place on public lands, including national forests and state trust lands, and contest organizers rarely let the public know where the contestants are competitively shooting animals for prizes. Most people, including hunters who abide by fair-chase hunting principles, oppose these contests.

We will also work to restrict traps and poisons on public lands, press for sustainable funding of statewide spay/neuter services, and more…and we desperately need your help. Please support Animal Protection Voters right now, before the next legislative session.

Animal Protection Voters, the legislative arm of Animal Protection of New Mexico, fights for and wins legislation that makes New Mexico a better place for animals and people. You can see proof of this in the CARE services.

But we also work to address animal cruelty issues that have long existed in our state, drawing on the humane values cherished by most New Mexicans. For example, we worked relentlessly and succeeded in banning cockfighting and horse tripping, we made extreme cruelty to animals a 4th degree felony, and we prevented a horse slaughter plant from opening.

And every year, we help to elect humane lawmakers, and hold them accountable for their actions on animal issues. Just take a look at our Scorecard [link: http://www.apvnm.org/scorecards/], produced annually, that scores every member of the New Mexico Senate and House on how they voted on legislation that impacts animals.

We have accomplished a lot but there is so much more to do. By helping us reach this GoFundMe goal, you will be helping thousands of animals…and people. Thank you so much for donating and sharing this campaign.
