Animal Advocates Fundraiser

Animal Advocates of Barnwell County takes in dogs who have been abused, neglected, some are emaciated or heartworm-positive. One recent intake had a lump on her side; when the vet examined her, he discovered it was a bullet.

We need your help to save the lives of countless dogs…

Animal Advocates of Barnwell County, South Carolina, has launched a new program to transport animals from a rural, underserved area with a high euthanasia rate to a rescue in Alabama where they are cared for and adopted out.

Just the other day, we rescued a 12-week-old puppy who had been hit by a car and had a broken leg. We also recently took in a Cane Corso, which usually are 150 to 200 pounds. This one weighed only 72 pounds, as she had been chained to a tree for at least three years.

Many of our animals come from the local shelter – which, at times, has had a euthanasia rate as high as 98 percent. That shelter takes in about 2,000 dogs and cats each year. The more dogs we can take in from the shelter, the more lives we save. Living in a poor, rural county, we have an overflow of abused and neglected dogs and a short supply of families who are willing and able to adopt.

We have to find creative ways to save these animals.

One program we recently launched transports dogs from South Carolina to Big Dog Ranch Rescue’s new facility in Shorter, Alabama. We began transporting dogs to Alabama around Thanksgiving, with the hope of taking up to 25 at a time, once every four to six weeks. When the dogs arrive in Shorter, they are cared for and adopted out.

This pipeline is important because it frees space at Animal Advocates, which in turn allows us to pull more animals from the nearby shelter – saving their lives.

To keep this program going, Animal Advocates needs a larger van for transport. Proceeds from this GoFundMe will help us move dogs from South Carolina to Alabama, so they can be placed in fur-ever homes there.

Animal Advocates already operates a second-hand shop; hosts numerous events, including two annual fundraisers; and participates in numerous community events, such as the Festival of Trees, Blessing of the Animals, and Community Parades, for operating and other revenue.

Although we are extremely appreciative and thankful for the support that we receive from our community, it is just not enough to sustain our mission.

Thank you so much for giving what you can!
