Help Angus Beat Cancer

Donation protected
Angus is the younger of our two Goldens. He's just over 2 1/2.

Angus is doting and sweet, and VERY curious--he will introduce himself to every person he meets by leaning on their knees and asking for a pet. He loves his family and his older brother Fergus, and they play at the dog park every day, where they've gotten quite a fanbase. And like any Golden, he loves dinnertime. I really think he is the happiest dog on the planet.

Angus is also a champion chewer. And while trying to take a stolen towel away from him, we found a lump in the roof of his mouth, pressing on his teeth. We went right to the vet, where they told us what we were most afraid to hear: a cancerous tumor. We were told us the most we could do at that point was keep our fingers crossed and schedule Angus for a biopsy and CT scan.

We waited all week for results of the biopsy and CT scan. Finally they finally came back as plasmacytoma. The tumor is "an accumulation of abnormal red blood/plasma cells" that grows within the soft tissue or bony skeleton. The (relatively) good news is that it doesn't appear to have spread. Right now, Angus is on a high dose of prednisone, and may also get an injection, in an attempt to shrink the tumor before surgery, so it can be removed with minimal damage to his mouth. And best of all, if it's removed, there is a fair chance that it will be gone for good. We've been told repeatedly that it's very rare to find a tumor in a dog as young as Angus and even more rare for this type of tumor.

Any animal lover knows how high veterinary bills can be. Angus’s existing and anticipated care has already exceeded what we can afford. The biopsy alone was $2,735.00, and surgery , initially estimated at $4,200.00 to $5,300.00 was brought down to an estimated $3,300.00 to $3,900.00... and that doesn't include continuing medication or follow-up care.

We are seeking donations to allow us to give Angus the surgery and every chance at the long and love-filled life he deserves.

Any and all donations will go toward Angus’s surgeries (biopsy and tumor removal), any follow-up care and medications,  and if needed, a prosthesis. Should we be lucky enough to exceed our goal, any additional donations will go directly to a local animal rescue.

Thank you so much for any help you can give our family.
