Anguilla needs our help!
As many of you know, our friends and Vail community members, Penny, Emma, and Thomas Turilli, moved themselves to the small island of Anguilla in the Leeward Islands of the Caribbean for this school year. Their purpose was to immerse themselves in the friendly community, culture and natural beauty of this island. And to provide any help they could to it's small, relatively underpriviledged population (Penny brought suitcases filled with school supplies when they moved)!
Now hurricane Irma has hit and the Turillis (and we) have a new, more urgent purpose and goal!
A small island just 16 miles long and less than 3 miles wide, with a population of only 15,000 people, Anguilla has been devastated by the force of Irma -- the strongest Atlantic hurricane ever in recorded history. The eye and eye wall went directly over this small piece of land. Winds were 185 miles per hour at the worst; homes and businesses are gone, power lines are down, there is no electricity or ability to communicate right now, there was flooding.
Rebuilding will take a long time and a lot of help. The main industry is tourism, similar to here; there will be no tourism, no income from this source, until they are rebuilt!
Penny, Thomas, and Emma are safe! This campaign is for the people and the island of Anguilla to help in any way they need in the aftermath of Irma. Our contributions will be used to help with buying materials for physically rebuilding the vast number of homes, schools, and businesses destroyed, including the hospital and the high school.

We are focusing our efforts on Anguilla because we know how much the Turillis love the island and it's people, and it helps focus our small effort. We know this fundraiser is just one of many, many needed after both recent hurricanes, and after the fires all over the west of the US. So we thank you for any contribution you can make. These funds will be used by us as directed by Penny to help get supplies to the island in the most efficient way possible. We will not withdraw funds until we have Penny's guidance. We will either buy supplies here in the US and ship them to Anguilla or send the funds to help Penny buy the most necessary supplies that become available on Anguilla. And we know for sure that Penny Turilli is a person who will MAKE SURE these funds are put to their best, most critical purposes.
