Angel’s fight against epilepsy

Hi, welcome to the complex life of 14 year old Angel McEvilly. Angel, from a young age, bounced from foster home to foster home, before he was adopted at the age of 9 years old. This is an important detail, because Angel has never lived a life of a “normal” teenage boy. A year after we adopted Angel, he had his first seizure. This was a tonic clonic (gran mal) that landed Angel in Children’s hospital. He was monitored and released. A week later, he had another one...and another one. He began having nocturnal seizures in his sleep. His brothers would wake up to  Angel convulsing and turning blue. This hospital stay, he would leave with a new diagnosis. At 10 years old, Angel was diagnosed with Epilepsy. Angel tried medication after medication, with no luck controlling the seizures. The seizures would continue...sometimes weekly, sometimes monthly, but they would always come back. It’s scary watching your son convulse and at times  stop breathing.There is a feeling of indescribable helplessness.  As a mom, my biggest fear is SUDEP.  What is SUDEP? SUDEP is the sudden, unexpected death of someone with epilepsy, who was otherwise healthy. Angel is at high risk because his seizures are not controlled by medication. This is where you, my tribe, come in.  We need help. I would never ask for it unless it was completely necessary. Angel will be hopefully undergoing brain surgery, intercranial monitoring, and possibly a Frontal lobectomy in the very near future. This will require an extensive hospital stay that requires one of his guardians to be with him at all times.  Financially, we have started to feel the burden of the past years constant neurology, pediatrician visits, ER visits, medications, therapy, Pet scans, MRI’s, and life saving rescue meds. We are a one income family.  I want to keep making sure Angel has a shot at a great life. I would like to be able to keep fighting with him without the worry that this is going to financially doom our family. I would like to purchase life saving epilepsy monitoring products that would alert me of seizures when I’m not near him and monitor him in his sleep. I want to be able to buy the comfy clothes/pj's for him to recover in. To pay for a tutor to help him get through the ninth grade. Most of all, I’m reaching out because this extraordinary child deserves all the help we can give him. Thank you for taking the time to read our story.
