WHAT IS GUARDIAN ANGEL OUTREACH?
Serving 80-110 individuals weekly, Guardian Angels Outreach offers help and hope to homeless and disabled individuals in our community. Our mission is designed to address immediate needs such as food, clean water, clothing, hygiene supplies and caring attention to each individual. While many of our services may seem "simple," those who receive them take nothing for granted. Often, it is the simplest of gestures that brings the most powerful results.
If you have a heart to serve, please help us as we continue to spread God's love throughout the homeless community. We will be meeting at NOON each Tuesday at Verge Church, located at 7850 S. Dean Martin Drive Suite 503 to assemble meals and deliver to those less fortunate who live on the streets of Las Vegas near the downtown area.
ALL donations of food, water, toiletries, as well as financial support is GREATLY appreciated. Thank you!
HOW DID GUARDIAN ANGEL OUTREACH GET STARTED?
As part of a challenge made by Vince Antonucci, Lead Pastor for Verve Church here in Las Vegas, called "Guerilla Lovers" based on his book by the same title, Gary Robinson decided to do something totally out of his (and most peoples) comfort zone! The summers here in Vegas are usually 100+ degrees, so on his own Gary decided to purchase a case of 24 bottles of water and some ice, put them in a cooler and go on a journey he could have never expected!
What he found out that day was profound and life changing. These people were not just a "bunch of Smelly Old Bums, Drunks and Drug Addicts ". They were You and Me less a paycheck, home or a meal. These people were orderly, grateful and humble.
On his way home Gary was overtaken with emotion. He pulled his car to the side of the road and began to weep uncontrollably. Mostly from shame. Shame for what he thought these people were, shame of his fear and shame of the way he had treated people like this in the past. He also wept because he realized that serving them had been as much of a blessing to him as it had been to the people he had served, probably more so.
SO HOW DID GUARDIAN ANGEL OUTREACH GET FROM A CASE OF WATER TO THIS?
On his way home from his first service of water to the homeless Gary called Vince at Verve to tell him how thankful he was that Vince had put forth the "Guerilla Lovers" challenge, what he had done that day and how it had impacted him.
The following Sunday at Verve, Vince mentioned how moved he was by Gary's story. Some ladies that were there that day got in touch with Gary and said they would like to accompany him the following Tuesday and were planning to make a couple dozen P,B & J sandwiches to give out with the waters. The following week, a few more people along with 40 P.B & J's and we are still growing! This past Tuesday we served 110+ hot meals.
WHAT ARE THE GUARDIAN ANGEL OUTREACH GOALS?
FIRSTLY, to be able to continue what we are currently doing. We would like to expand the number of meals we are able to distribute and furnish quarterly hygiene kits.
HOW DID WE ARRIVE AT THE AMOUNT OF $11,440.00?
We are currently able to provide meals for 110 people a week. Our goal is to provide those meals for $2.00 per person, per week.
$2.00 x 110 = $220.00 / $220.00 x 52 = .......... You got it..... $11440.00 per year!
