I've created this fund in support of my 4 yr old neice Layla Destiny & her parents (my brother Lee & her mom Shapel). Layla was diagonosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (B-cell ALL) just last week. After prolonged fatigue, fever and red skin rash, a dr visit then indicated an enlarged liver; those findings prompted doctors to insist on an immediate transfer to Duke Children's Hospital in Durham, NC via ambulance -almost 2 hrs away from their home in Fayetteville.
Over the past several days, Layla has undergone countless tests, procedures, studies to assess the aggressiveness of her cancer. Her white blood cell count which should have been in the teens but was well over 50,000 In between, she's fought off fever and several complications. Through it all, by my brother's account Layla has been a stellar patient, instantly winning the hearts of many staff. In her down time, she is able to experience some sense of "normalcy" watching Peppa Pig, enjoying a lite snack or visiting the Ronald McDonald Room to engage in some fun activities with other patients.
Layla already braved her 1st chemo treatment this past Saturday which was a success.Doctors have told Layla's parents that she will need treatment for the next 2 years; they will have to commute during this duration to ensure she receives the best possible care that is not available in their immediate area.
Learning of Layla's health crisis has undoubtedly jolted us all and even though we come from families grounded in faith, it's been scary and upsetting, especially for me & my immediate family who are limited to the support we can offer my brother and his family amidst the distance that seperates us.
The goal of implementing this gofundme is to support Layla & her parents as they embark this journey to not only beat cancer but KICK ITS BUTT! I am asking family, friends and strangers alike to consider their situation and anticipated hardships as they will experience lost of wages, incur bills, travel & lodging costs and other expenditures. My brother does not currently own his own vehicle and he could really use a reliable car so that he make the necessary frequent trips to Durham to be at his daughter's side to support, advocate & root her on.
I feel so helpless in this situation yet I'm believing for a mighty move of God for complete restoration of health for Layla and that others like YOU may be led to offer your help in solidarity and support of my family. No contribution is too small... $1, $5, or $20 coupled with your fervent prayers & a willingness to maybe share among your networks would be truly be appreciated by all.
On behalf of my family & I, I sincerely thank you in advance for your suppport during this time. Become AN ANGEL HEART for LAYLA today!
