When I was diagnosed with stage four gastric cancer it felt as if I was just given a death sentence.  The first thing I thought about was my children, how I was going to break the news to them and how they were going to react.  The pain that I saw in my husband’s eyes about the uncertainty of our future went straight to my soul.  It was at that point that I promised my husband that I would never give up or stop fighting the cancer.

If the diagnosis of having stage four gastric cancer wasn’t enough I was told that the type of cancer I have is rare.  Being a mother of five beautiful children and the wife of a wonderful husband I needed to fight this cancer in the best way possible.  This led me to go to MD Anderson in Houston, Texas in hopes of finding treatment options.  The doctors at MD Anderson told me that they have treated my type of cancer before and that they were going to do everything they could to help me fight the cancer. 

I have been fighting the cancer for eighteen months with my family seeing me struggle with the chemo treatments and multiple stays at the hospital.  My five year old at times refuses to leave my side while one of my oldest children volunteers on a daily basis to take care of me.  My husband works fulltime on top of being the primary care giver for the children and myself.  Our eleven year old daughter cries with me at night somedays because she is so scared of losing me.

The fight against my cancer has exhausted all of our financial savings.  We applied for government and private financial assistance programs but we have been denied assistance.  The fight against my cancer is getting to a point where we are cannot keep up with the mounting medical and travel costs.  I am asking for help with these costs to continue my fight fight against the cancer. 

               Through all of this we have kept God and our faith first and foremost.  Every night since I was diagnosed my husband has prayed over me asking God to help me through this and help our family through this.  Every night we put everything in God’s hands and true to form he has taken care of us.  I don’t know what the future holds but I will be enternally greatful for the chance to see my children grow up.  Please any help would be a blessing.
