Appalachian Trail Thru Hike 2018

Donation protected
Hi, my name's Andrew Ellingsworth and I'm attempting to thru hike the Appalachian Trail this year. The foot trail travels from Georgia to Maine totalling 2,190 miles and covering 14 states. The journey takes anywhere from 4 to 7 months for most people. Why am I attempting such a silly endeavor? I have a few reasons. The biggest being this. My father passed away a few years ago from lung cancer. I've stuggled with his passing and I'm hoping the trail can bring closure and peace to this chapter in my life. I am carrying his ashes with me and have already placed them at the start (Springer Mountain), Clingmans Dome (the highest point on the AT) and hope to place them at the finish (Katahdin). Another big reason for me to take this journey is to reflect on my addiction to alcohol. I am currently as I write this 172 days sober (7/19) and hope to remain so throughout this journey. A few people have asked how to help me on my journey and I figured this would be the easiest way. While I cannot guarantee I make it to the finish and don't plan on quiting, injury and serious illness are a constant threat. So before you donate keep that in mind. As little as a few dollars will allow me to grab a burger at my next resupply town or grab a shower in town. Literally anything helps. Thanks for taking the time to read this and help me on my journey. - Andrew. I am currently in Straton, ME.
