Andy & Rebecca's Albums: Songs for the World We Dream of
Donation protected
Hello and thank you to whatever inspired you to check out our GoFundMe. Andy Fischer-Price and Rebecca Elatiki here :)
Music and love are the threads that have helped weave our lives together in magical ways - ways we could never have anticipated or imagined. As if finding each other and falling in love wasn’t enough, we’ve been getting to sing and tour within a growing community of people who enjoy our music. Now, two and a half years in, we’re each working on our own individual albums, side by side, crafting songs that come from and speak straight to the heart.
In the context of such deep collective pain and uncertainty, these songs are the truest things we know how to give right now. They’re full of love, grief, wonder, and the quiet (or not so quiet) truths we’re learning as we go. They’re also pointing towards a world we want to live in - a world where we know ourselves as the Earth and each other, where the cycles of intergenerational trauma are broken, and where peace and freedom are a living reality for all. Many of these songs feel like altars for prayers we are being asked to return to over and over again, prayers that will likely take lifetimes to manifest in this reality.
While our values and visions are largely the same, they way they are expressed through each of us as artists is unique. Our goal is to create two albums that reflect our individual voices while collaborating and supporting one another.
Both albums are already in motion (see track listings below). The bones of each song are intact, and we’ve been incredibly lucky to work with generous, wildly talented collaborators - dear friends and magicians who know how to help hold this music as a kind of prayer. These include our dear brother, Shachar Boussani -who produced and engineered Andy’s last album, Lujah - Aimée Ringle, Brian “Yam” Dwyer, Alexa Sunshine Rose, Micaela Kingslight, Jason “Krivo” Flores, Max Ribner, Ian Love Covington, and more…
Making an album is an immense, beautiful and costly process, and we’re grateful to be where we are in the journey. We are also so blessed to have had the studio where we recorded the guitar and vocal tracks (our friends Erin and Tom’s beautiful home in Ashland) entirely donated. (Thank you so much, Erin and Tom, for your trust, kindness and generosity! We love you!!) This saved us an enormous amount of upfront expenses and provided us with the sweetest atmosphere we could have hoped to have while recording. However, we still have the costs of mixing and mastering, paying additional musicians, album artwork, essential travel, distribution, and duplication. And, especially when making two albums at once, it really adds up.
We’re turning to our community to help make these dreams a reality. Every donation - no matter the size - brings us one step closer to bringing this music to life and being able to share it with our community.
With many community-funded albums asking upwards of $20,000, we’re really trying to do this as efficiently as possible. This has meant pulling some favors, doing trades, and getting friend-rates for professional services (mixing alone at Shachar’s full rate would cost us more than we’re asking for in this campaign!). There are some pieces, though, that are expensive no matter how you do it. We’d also love to minimize the amount of donated creative energy being put into these projects and pay our talented friends what they are worth.
The $16,000 we are ultimately hoping to raise will help us pay for:
* Studio musicians, engineers, and sound magicians for their time and gifts
* Additional studio space and equipment
* Mixing, mastering, and post-production (billed per song, twice over)
* Travel and food costs for collaborators coming in from afar
* Artwork, design, and eventual distribution
We also ordered a Lauten Atlantis FC-387 microphone to record additional vocals on. As of now the plan is to return it after recording for the next week, but having now become Andy’s all-time favorite microphone, we would love to keep it and use it for future projects.
If there is money left over, we’d also love to be able to put some towards merch (Andy has finalized a t-shirt design with an artist/friend in Portland), and we’re both exploring the possibility of getting albums printed on vinyl. (What do you think?)
As a way of saying thanks, anyone who donates $40 will receive a digital copy of both albums when they are released on Bandcamp. (This will happen well before the albums are released onto streaming services like Spotify.)
And for anyone who donates $1000 or more, we would love to show our thanks by collaborating on writing a song for you or someone you love, scheduling a private show or sound journey (hopefully on the West Coast), or coming up with something else that feels exciting for you.
Closing this letter by offering deep thanks. If you are here, you likely have already supported our music in some way, perhaps even repeatedly. So, thank you. In a world of struggling artists, we feel the gift it is to have a community that resonates with the music coming from our hearts and through our voices. We hope these songs may bless and support your journeys in whatever ways they can.
