Artist-In-Residence: Paris
If you're reading this - it's because you are someone who has encouraged, guided, cheered for, and overall helped shape my reality as an artist and as someone who believes that anything is possible.
I have been given an opportunity to travel to Paris and participate as an Artist-In-Residence - as part of an inaugural exchange program organized by the Los Angeles based Tappan Collective, who represent global emerging artists. They have been managing my work for almost a year now and within that short period of time alot of exciting momentum has helped take my art practice to a new level. 
The residency is for 3 months, beginning in October. During this time I'll be conducting field research and culture studies across the region. As you may already know - my work orbits around environmental issues, natural history, indigenous ideas and the tension between people and the natural world. What this trip provides - is an opportunity to be at the forefront of one of the worlds most refined and ancient civilizations with and dig into it's culture.
The neighborhood I will be living in is a predominantly African and Muslim area in the 18th arrondissement, which is exciting because this provides an opportunity to learn more about cultures I care about - that are currently being demonized by the United States. I am hoping this cultural immersion will help challenge stereotypes, give deeper meaning to my work, and provide me as a human - a deeper more compassionate understanding into the beauty and mysticsm that these cultures represent to me.
I'll be visiting places of prehistoric importance and tracing lines of rulers, warriors and ancient predators to gain a deeper, personal understanding of what was here before these beautiful walls, and what lies beyond their perimeter.
My goal is to build a new body of artwork and further develop my practice. I'm very excited about where the work is going - and eager to find new ways to express the feelings and inspirations currently coming from our political and environmental climate. I will be working to have a showing of the work upon returning to Los Angeles. 
In order for this trip to happen, I need to be able to pay for all of my expenses in Los Angeles, during the 3 months (rent, insurance, utilities, etc) as well as pay for all supplies and material expenses abroad. There's no way I can do this alone. I'm hoping for your support to make this project happen in a good way.
