Andrew's Medical & Healing Expenses

Andrew was transported via life-flight to Texas Children's Hospital on Sunday, June 18 for kidney failure, which we now know was caused by Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS). Upon admission to the ICU that evening, he had approximately 2% kidney function therefore the amazing team here at TCH acted quickly to begin blood transfusions and dialysis. Due to the aggressive nature of the bacteria that attacked his blood, his renal team has monitored his blood levels closely to adjust his treatments accordingly. Andrew's treatments have primarily been blood transfusions and renal dialysis, but there have been several other treatments, dependent on the body system impacted.

Right now we monitor his progress day by day, taking each updated test result with the knowledge it could change again by tomorrow. The doctors are very content with his continued improvements, as progress in baby steps is what they would expect with this issue.
