Andrew's heart transplant

Donation protected
Andrew Taylor was placed on the heart transplant list on September 21st, 2017. We have set up this go fund me account to gather financial support for his accruing medical costs.

Andrew, 26 years old, was born and raised in Brandon, SD. He was first diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy in 2004. In other words, he's got a REALLY big heart. At this time his symptoms were controlled with medication. Andrew graduated from Brandon Valley High School and began studying at the University of Nebraska. In 2013, he experienced a heart failure event indicating to his doctors that he needed additional treatment for his condition. Andrew had an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) placed in 2014 and started additional medications. This helped control his symptoms and also piqued his interest in the medical device field! He graduated from UNL with a degree in Biological Systems Engineering and started his job search. His top choice being the makers of his ICD; Boston Scientific. Andrew was hired by Boston and started his career as a Clinical Field Representative in Cardiac Rhythm Management in January of 2017 in Duluth, MN.

Andrew is truly a pillar of strength, with endless optimism, intelligence, sense of humor and resilience. In the last 9 months since starting his career he has excelled in his position and settled quickly into his new life in Duluth. However, in late July he started experiencing heart failure symptoms again. He assumed he just needed a medication adjustment but ultimately landed in the hospital in early September. He was admitted to United Hospital for 12 days where doctors informed him that his heart had reached the end stage. His doctors implanted a new pacemaker to help lower his heart rate and buy some time all while noting that a transplant was in his near future. Timelines were vague but they suggested meeting with a transplant team to start discussing options. After only 5 days of his discharge from United he went to a scheduled appointment at Abbott Heart to begin the transplant screening process. He was immediately admitted and informed that he needed a transplant now. The news was shocking and overwhelming. Andrew's doctors informed him that his heart was as sick as it could be and yet he was fortunate that the rest of his body was quite healthy. Therefore, he is the ideal candidate for a heart transplant. Andrew has been listed as a 1A candidate, meaning the top of the list! He will remain in the ICU at Abbott while he waits for a heart due to a placed catheter continuously monitoring his condition.

We are grateful for the tremendous emotional support that has been received from Andrew's friends, family, and coworkers. We ask for continued prayers and also for donations if you are able.

THANK YOU!
